Thirsting for Conversation — 3D Wheels
Day 3: Part 2 on Carousels… Ferris Wheels! (Make it Scroll for wheel!) 😂
Continuing yesterdays conversation on really looking at alternate modes of virtual navigation…
Here are some cool things we can do with a vertical carousel… or ferris wheels, if they pass as that:
This first one is really practical if one wants stick close to traditional web design, but still be innovative. Imagine scrolling down your Twitter or Facebook feed, but instead of looking at a post, and saving really good ones that you want to revisit, but never do,… you now can just slide it to the side! Deposit noteworthy posts in another feed that you can simply swipe or just use immediately/concurrently. No more hunting around for where you saved it. It's kinda like having multiple lists on your Trello board.
Just this small difference can save a lot of time and actually make those bookmark, saved posts, and favorites lists actually useful. Not to mention a joy to experience!
The second one is sort of experimental… perhaps for keeping card-like posts and profiles on hand in a cool little interactive one. Unlike the others, this one is not expressly intended for full page experiences. This is a great nontrivial widget one can have anywhere… perhaps think of it as a digital rolodex!
Number three is a cool and intuitive way to not only use multiple carousels nontrivially, but also to view content in different ways. This would be great for something like Hootsuite, where you have very different dashboards or feeds you want to keep track of concurrently. Conversely, you can use it to kind of zoom in and out or ‘physically’ break down different aspects of the same content.
Finally, the fourth is honestly mostly for fun: an actual Ferris Wheel! 😁 I just wanted to see if I can do it and match yesterdays carousel… 😎 Um… I suppose this could serve the same purpose!
The controlled chaos, the static immersion, the clean dynamics of a completely 3-dimensional experience. This would be optimal for huge platforms with widely, wildly varying pages and profiles. Perhaps a browser game hub or a creator platform meant to showcase unique things, or even a personal/company site with different projects and case studies.
The point is to have fun with innovative design… one cannot innovate with just one way of doing things. Diversify your design…
Ill say that again.
Diversify your design!
What do you think?? Would love to hear your thoughts!!
