Thirsting for Conversation — Social Emotions

Day 4: Social Media doesn't have to be media.. or narcissistic

Today I was feeling really lethargic. I was morose and feeling lost but not sure why. Actually I had no clue… and those are the worse types of depression… when one feels down, head all clouded, the whole world gray and bland.. distant, but you have no idea why. You ‘know’ you should feel good, happy or at least satisfied and grateful of where you are right now… but the mind cares not for logic.

Emotions are a solitary struggle… but they don’t have to be. Emotions can be social.

In fact, most times they are. That is when we feel most connected and unified and strengthened… when we share and feel support for our emotions.

Unfortunately much of social media does the very opposite of that. People put up an act, a wall.. and then post only good things on it. Even when one shares their mind and raw emotions, they get hate, fake pats on the back, or worse,… nothing at all.

This is no explicit fault of social media or the internet or technology. It’s just the result of not knowing how to share or find emotional cues usually found in body language or tone of voice.

I’m not sure how to solve that.. yet.

But it was my completely ‘random’ bout of grayness; my not knowing how to handle or what to do or whom to share my emotions with that inspired me to create today’s designs.

Sometimes the best way to figure out your emotions is to just share them wherever you can, with whomever you can, even if their strangers, as long as they too are sympathetic.

So this social site is very much like a game… simply type in the cloud what you’re feeling, and watch it meld with the dozens, hundreds, and maybe even thousands of other people’s emotions.

There is something incredibly satisfying just from the simple act of being in the same boat as others…

It’s not just a release though…

It’s the birth and growth and shine of something new and beautiful and fresh that really heals the soul.

Watch the clouds lighten up and part for the sun of love and light to turn even the darkest and saddest of thoughts into something positive.

Watch that positivity grow even from a ground drenched in sorrow.

Experience this with a number of other people too, as everyone cheers up with a mood lift together.

There is something powerful in design… in visuals… in shared experiences…

Why not embrace it?
